As we all know, and as popular culture indicates, the excessive intake of sweets (specifically refined carbohydrates) not only causes obesity, and a series of related health problems, but also intervenes as a predisposing factor to tooth decay.

Everybody wants a beautiful smile and every time there are fewer who do not worry about the health of their mouth. From orthodontics to align the teeth and correct the bite, through whitening to daily oral hygiene. The maintenance and care of our teeth is something that worries the majority.

Drinking beverages and foods with strong acidity or sugars affects dental erosion and, consequently, the development of caries.

Surprisingly, sugar is not the main cause of tooth decay. What causes tooth decay is acid, not sugar. But there is a relationship between sugar and acid. Sugar causes the bacteria in your mouth to produce the acid that ultimately damages your teeth. That is to say that the more sugar you consume, the more acid you will create in your mouth. But this process occurs due to the plate.

Remember to reduce your sugar intake, reduce the amount of time your teeth are exposed to sugar and perform regular cleanings. Your smile will thank you and you can satisfy your cravings to eat sweets without damaging too much the enamel of your teeth.

Happy Sweeties Day, and be careful with those sweets, or you going to have to see me soon!
